Christian Rap vs. Hymns

These are just some examples. Anybody's perspective change?? I've found lately that I like a few hymns like 'Tis so Sweet to Trust in Jesus' and 'Crown Him with Many Crowns'.

But the question is...

Which is better? Christian rap or Hymns? You decide!

    'Be Thou My Vision' is one of my favorite hymns!!! So I find it hard to compare it to rap....Christian or not.

    Anywho, I think hymns vs. rap depends on the person: the rap might witness to some people, while hymns work better with others. So, I believe it just depends on the person. (:

    Personally I've heard better rap lyrics than hymns, but vice versa too. Though I know I'd rather listen to rap than hymns.

    For me it totally depends on the song and the words...I definitely would choose listening to Christian rap over Christian rock ( like Skillet for example;)...but rap over hymns? Hmmm....I just can't envision angels rapping in Heaven. I'm not saying it's bad...I mean the words can be awesome! That's a hard one for me...

    I think the two main reasons that I personally would pick Hymns over rap is 1)it is more pleasing to listen to and 2) the connotation you get by listening to rap music is that you are listening to a song that is littered with bad language and other "bad stuff". I agree with Hayley that I can't imagine Angels in Heaven rapping, it's an image that doesn't seem to fit.

    Again, personally, I believe that music should be not only pleasing to listen to, but refreshing to the soul. When you listen or sing along with Hymns, you can feel your soul rejoicing or (if it's a different kind of Hymn) you are repentive. When I listen to rap, all I can really think about is guys doing gang signs, and doing things that aren't glorifying Him.

    This is all what I feel and believe, I'm open to discussion! :)

    For me it depends on the words. There some Hymns that have words that are so not... just not good, or that don't make sense! And the same with rap, or any contemporary Christian song. It depends on the lyrics. Rap isn't my style haha. But this you already know! ;)

    This is a tough topic that I'm really glad you're posting about! Personally, I think most hymns have wonderful lyrics that are truth-saturated. However, singing or hearing a hymn usually just doesn't do much for me. Of course it totally depends on the lyrics and song, but when I listen to Christian rap or other contemporary Christian music, that's what I feel like draws me closer to Christ and makes me come alive!

    Worship music is basically my life, I spend a lot of time doing that. Honestly, the times when I'm closest to God are when I'm worshiping through contemporary/pop Christian music (again- lyrics make ALL the difference. If it's a shallow song, forget it.).

    Looking forward to hearing more on this!
    Either way, OUR GOD IS WORTHY! Never stop worshiping!!!
